Resonator

Each portal has 8 slots where you can deploy or upgrade a resonator.
Resonators are used to gain control of portal for your faction and it is what determines their level. This is calculated by the sum of the total levels of the resonators present divided by 8.
Resonators also determine how far a portal can be linked and how much energy (XM) it will have. To calculate the maximum distance you can use the following formula.

Portal Range = 160 m x (Average Resonators Level ^ 4)

Deployment

The maximum level of the resonators you can deploy are limited by your level. With higher levels you are also limited on the amount of resonators you can deploy per portal.
Deploying the first resonator on a portal gives you 625 AP. All the following ones will grant you 125 AP , with the exception being the 8th one that grants you 375 AP. Upgrading a already deployed resonator by another player to a higher level grants you 65 AP.
Deploying a resonator will cost you 50 XM x the Resonator lvl

Decay

Resonators are the only item that decays with time making the portal lose it's energy (XM). They lose 15% of their maximum energy per day and if untouched they disappear after 7 days. The only way to prevent this is by recharging the resonators. This can be done remotely if holding the key to that portal.
Recharging a portal gives the portal regain 1000 XM of the XM lost at 100% efficiency and costs you the same. The farther you are from the portal the lower the efficiency might be. To calculate the efficiency the following formula is used

Efficiency (%) = 100 – (distance in km)/(5 x Player Level)

Rarity

The rarity of resonators is very common, meaning they can be easily obtained via hacking. The level you obtain is limited by your own level and the level of the portal.

Recycling

Recycling a resonator will give you 20 XM x the Resonator lvl

Card

resonatorcard.jpg Developer - Niantic Labs

Description - The resonator is an XM object that amplifies and tunes the XM energy naturally occurring at Portal locations. Resonators can be used to increase the XM flow and align XM modulation to Enlightened or Resistance frequencies. Portals must be fully Resonated to link to other Portals. Level 1-8 Resonators have been observed although more powerful Resonators are almost certainly possible.

History - The Resonator was created during initial XM research studies conducted by the Niantic Project at CERN. The creation of the Resonator (and the initial insights into the ability to form XM into functional objects) is attributed to Dr. Oliver Lynton-Wolfe but the Niantic AI system (ADA) played a significant and not fully understand role in this process. Insight into XM properties were also provided by Dr. Devra Bogdanovich, Roland Jarvis, Carrie Campbell, and Enoch Dalby, among others.
